Sunset View Beach sits on the southeast shore of Turtle Lake, about 43 kilometres northeast of Turtleford and 102 kilometres north of North Battleford. For its early years the area was part of the RM of Parkdale No. 498.
On September 1, 1992, it was incorporated as a resort village. That status lasted until it dissolved on January 1, 2005, when Sunset View Beach became an organized hamlet under the RM of Mervin No. 499, where it remains today.
Today the hamlet is overseen by the RM of Mervin, with a three-person hamlet board chaired by Ray Fenrich.
